America has suffered multiple disasters and after a civil war the nation of Gilead has arisen. It is ruled by a totalitarian regime of Christian fundamentalists. The word of God is used as a guide for every aspect of life. The country is led by male rulers, including Commander Fred Waterford. The Handmaids must use their fertility to secure the future of Gilead. These Handmaids serve the rulers by bearing their children. There is much sorrow and rule is enforced with an iron hand. Murder and brutality keep the inhabitants in check. These spirits wander through the room of The Handmaid's Tale. Do you dare try to free the young children from the hands of Gilead’s rulers?
